To help with her ongoing medical and financial needs as she continues to recover from a serious car accident in Mattawamkeag last November, a benefit concert for Hannah Somers-Jones has been scheduled at the Criterion Theater in Bar Harbor on Tuesday, April 26.

The show, which will begin at 7 p.m., will feature members of the award-winning Mount Desert Island High School jazz program, legendary Maine singer-songwriter David Mallett, and Down East’s favorite Rock and Roll dance band, The Crown Vics, with “many more surprises” to be announced, according to organizer Bob Bowman.

A silent auction will run in conjunction with the concert with donations of gift certificates for restaurants, lodging, merchandise, and activities among the items up for bid. The silent auction will open for bidding at the Criterion at 5 p.m. with final bids being made as the last act comes on stage.

“We are actively seeking new items for the silent auction and donations will be welcomed right up to the night of the show,” Bowman said.

The same night Little Anthony’s Restaurant’s long-running open mic night, hosted by Russell Snyder, will be dedicated to Hannah. Hannah’s friends are invited to show their support by playing music at the tavern, located at the western end of Cottage Street,  from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m.

Somers-Jones is a talented a flute player, who grew up on MDI and attended island schools and summer arts programs such as Summer Festival of the Arts.

Since the Nov. 22 accident, she has undergone several surgeries and medical procedures for broken facial bones, jaws, teeth, and neck vertebrae. She is coping with a very long recovery, and the inability to work, and has no health insurance.

“She has some good days and many, many not so good days,” according to her mother, Beth Somers. “She is still having tons of appointments with multiple surgeons.”
