It is not called ‘Maverick’ or have a shark-related name, but it does belong to Mark Cuban, the Texas billionaire with a bad boy image.

The 288-foot mega-yacht Fountainhead has been anchored off Hotel Row (outer Eden Street) in Bar Harbor for the past several days. It is not known whether Cuban is traveling with the ship.

Cuban is owner of the Dallas Mavericks NBA basketball team and is a featured investor on the ABC television show Shark Tank. According to Forbes magazine, Cuban has an estimated net worth of $3 billion. cubanmug1

Cuban is not the only billionaire owner of an NBA franchise who owns a yacht that has appeared this year in Bar Harbor. In early June, Lady Gayle Marie, owned by New Orleans Pelicans’ owner Tom Benson was tied up in front of the Harborside Hotel off the downtown waterfront. Benson, who also owns the Saints NFL team, has an estimated net worth of $1.87 billion, according to Forbes.

The Cayman Islands-registered Fountainhead, which is said to be named after the Ayn Rand novel with the same title, was built and then launched in 2011 by Dutch yacht builder Feadship. Prior to showing up in Bar Harbor, Fountainhead has been spotted this year in Miami, Charleston, S.C.; and Stamford, Connecticut.

In a nod to Cuban’s connection to the sport, as an NBA owner and a fan, Fountainhead does have a basketball hoop with a glass backboard mounted over the large rear deck, according to this Youtube video:

Other large yachts that have been spotted off Mount Desert Island include Meteor, David Geffen’s massive, 454-foot Rising Sun, Wayne Huizenga’s Floridian, the Rebecca, Malcolm Forbes Sr.’s Highlander, and Asolare (formerly known as Scheherazade), which was built by Hodgdon Yachts of East Boothbay.
