Woman from MDI falls to her death in NYC

This weekend, word has spread on Mount Desert Island and beyond about the death in New York City of Hannah Shaw.

According to media reports from NYC, the MDI native died early Friday morning when she fell while trying to climb in through an exterior window into her boyfriend’s fourth-floor apartment in Brooklyn. She was 29 years old.

It’s definitely a strange and tragic story. According to the New York Daily News, Shaw had been out at a local bar in the borough’s Williambsurg neighborhood before the fatal incident.

According to an item posted on Fenceviewer, website of the the weekly Mount Desert Islander and Ellsworth American newspapers, indicates that Shaw grew up on MDI, where her parents still live. An in memoriam page called “Remembering Hannah Shaw” has been set up on Facebook.

Other online articles on the incident have been posted by Brooklyn Paper & Gothamist & DNAinfo New York & New York Post, among others.
